Are You Worried About Your Child?
Just when you think times have changed and the world is harder
today than it was "back in the day", Socrates comes around to remind
you of how little things have changed since  400 BC!

All many of us want for our children is for them to be healthy and
happy.  So when questions come up about your child's emotional
health, it can be overwhelming.

Happiness is a big part of our culture.  "Life, Liberty and the
Pursuit of Happiness."  As a parent, you gave them life.  As they grow,
you learn to let go and trust them with certain liberties.  You want to
give them happiness, but true happiness is not yours to give!
Happiness is something we each must learn for ourselves.

It starts with figuring out what happiness really is.  I've met many
kids who look at  happiness as a kind of hollywood-style excitement.
That's a very narrow focus -- and a target you'd be lucky to hit a few
times in a life time.

Make a list with your child of all the "good" emotions.  For example,
there are the exited good ones like ecstatic, thrilled and blissed-out.

Then there are the more mellow emotions like peaceful, contented
and relaxed.  There are the funnier forms of happy like amused,
tickled, and silly.

How about strong, proud or confident moments of happiness?
Happiness comes in a wide variety of flavors.  The more you can help
your child experience and appreciate all the ways in which we can feel
good, the better equipped they will be when it comes time for them to
face life on their own.

Children with large emotional vocabularies are more likely to
succeed.  If you would like help with this, just get in touch.  And when
you finish your list, let us know how many good feelings you found that
were left out here!

When you get in touch with your many ways to feel good, you'll
find that life can be better.
Parenting Can Make Sense.

“Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble
their food, and tyrannize their teachers.”
